Donyarth, the king of Pow a'n Mor, is a complex and multifaceted character. As a ruler, he embodies the virtues of wisdom, compassion, and a deep sense of duty to his people and his kingdom. He is a benevolent king, genuinely concerned for the welfare of his subjects, and strives to maintain peace and stability in his realm. Donyarth is known for his fairness and his efforts to balance the diverse beliefs and cultures within his kingdom, valuing the old pagan traditions as well as the established Church of The Nine..

However, Donyarth's strength as a ruler is tempered by his trusting nature and his reluctance to engage in conflict, especially with the church, which he holds in high regard. This makes him somewhat naive and vulnerable to manipulation, particularly by those he perceives as religiously devout. Donyarth's reliance on High Seer Waormund, a trusted advisor, further complicates matters. He views the High Seer as a moral and spiritual guide, unaware of the blackmail and coercion that compromise Waormund's counsel. This misplaced trust in Waormund leads Donyarth to tolerate the Brethren, mistaking their fanaticism for devout piety. His discomfort with their dogma is outweighed by his desire to avoid conflict with the church, demonstrating his prioritization of political stability over personal misgivings.

Donyarth is also a devoted father, though his relationship with his son Trystan is strained. Unaware of Trystan's entanglement with the fanatics, Donyarth struggles to understand the growing distance between them, attributing it to the typical generational differences rather than recognizing the insidious influence at play. This familial tension adds to his burdens as a king and as a father, making his reign even more precarious.

Despite his many virtues, Donyarth's reign is marked by a sense of impending doom as he remains oblivious to the true threat posed by the Brethren and the internal dissent among his barons. His reluctance to confront the religious extremism within his borders, due to his deference to the church, inadvertently gives the Brethren the opportunity to sow discord and strengthen their position. This internal conflict is a ticking time bomb, with Lord Polmear and other barons plotting rebellion, further destabilizing the kingdom.

Overall, King Donyarth is a noble and well-intentioned ruler whose strengths in compassion and fairness are undermined by his naivety and reluctance to confront uncomfortable truths.. His journey is one of navigating the treacherous waters of deceit and betrayal, seeking to uphold his ideals while grappling with the harsh realities of power. His story is a poignant exploration of the conflict between idealism and pragmatism, trust and treachery, love and duty.
