Rock Beetles are huge burrowing insects which live in tunnels and caves, coming to the surface to feed, when food underground is scarce. They can grow up to 12 feet in length, and are protected by a hard, black carapace. Their 12" mandibles are incredibly powerful, and have evolved to cut through rock, which the beetle first weakens by squirting an acidic saliva. Rock beetles are carnivorous scavengers, and can often be found under graveyards and in crypts, but may opportunistically attack smaller living creatures.
